How a guest link works
- Your file is encrypted in your browser before it leaves your device.
- The link you get contains the decryption key, after the
#. Your browser does not send that part to our servers during normal use, so anyone with the full link can open the file and we cannot open it without one. - The one exception is reporting: if someone who holds the link reports the file for abuse, reporting deliberately sends the key to our moderation team so they can review that one file. The report form says so before anything is sent. See Reporting abuse.
- If you lose the full link, it cannot be recovered. There is no account, no dashboard and no way for us to send it to you again. Creating a guest link is the one chance to copy it.
- Guest files are deleted permanently when they expire, and an expired file cannot be recovered.
- You can change expiry and burn settings while this page stays open. If you close or reload the page, you’ll lose the ability to manage the link.
- Closing or reloading the tab during the upload will lose the key and you will need to start again. Nothing is shared until the upload finishes.
- A free account keeps your files in a dashboard, where links can be re-created, changed and revoked.
